The Secrets to Gaining Visibility on Instagram

If you've ever wanted to become visible and grow on Instagram, then you're reading the right article. That's because you're about to discover my easy 3-step method for visibility.

And the good news is that this method works even if you don't have years of experience on the platform or in marketing.

Read on…

Step 1: Understand who you are speaking to.

Many people who're new to social media marketing don't even realize that they need to do this step before building a thriving community of people who appreciate their content. And that's why a lot of people who try to grow on platforms like Instagram end up failing – they're simply missing this crucial step.

So, the first thing you need to do is do a deep dive into who you want to speak to and who you will be doing it.

You'll find that this part of the process goes much more smoothly if you apply these tips and tricks:

  • Understand who you want to speak to? In my experience, if you are unsure of what to answer for this question, the easiest and most profitable place to start is:

    • Who was the person you were before you found the product or service that you are so passionate about now?

This person is often who you understand the most since you have been there; you know their deepest desires, what keeps them up at night, and where they want to be right now!

Once you've completed this first step – who you are speaking to, then you can move on to the next step…

Step 2: Understand who you are as a business owner.

The next thing you need to do is decide on the type of business owner you will show people. Are you fun and silly? Are you more serious and to the point? Will you be the person doing trendy dancing reels, or will you speak to the camera with an earnest as you give tips?

When I first started figuring out who I was as a business owner, I made many mistakes. And now that I've helped others do it, I see many people tend to make the same mistakes. So let me share with you the top 3 mistakes and how to avoid them:

  • The first mistake I see people make is: Trying to be someone you are not. Not every trend is for every person. If what you are signing yourself up to do doesn't feel right, don't do it.

Remember that when you are showing your video or post to people, they take that as who you are as a person. This means you will attract the people who like what they see from you. If you are showing them that you are silly and love to dance, you will attract people who want to see more of that.

This means next week, if you want to post a serious post about mistakes people need to avoid, you will have a lot of people unfollow you because you are not that fun person they signed up for.

  • The second mistake I see people make is: Not being consistent. Often when you are forcing yourself to do things you are not comfortable with, you avoid doing them, making you inconsistent.

Consistency is what works, why? Because people want to see dependability. They want to know you are showing up because when it comes time to work with someone, they want to know you will be there for them.

  • The third mistake I see people make is: Giving up too soon. Imagine if you gave up on everything that ever went wrong in your life? Your first time riding a bike, your first kiss, or the first time you… well, you know, had an intimate relationship.

You will mess up, you are going to fail, and that is okay! Because you are going to learn and improve!

Step 3: Build a thriving community

At this step, you're likely to be overwhelmed by the thought of building your community or joining in on other communities. So, what you need to do is engage on Instagram with intention.

I still remember trying to "fit in" with my niche communities and commenting on industry leaders' posts.

I would read the entire post of an industry leader; I would type a comment and erase it about five times before I finally told myself, "just DO IT already, hit the post button, what is the worst thing that could happen!"

And you know what the funny thing was, I was right! Nothing bad happened. In fact, I started getting my comments pinned by several industry leaders.

I had so many screenshots (my awards, as I called them) that I decided to write an entire ebook on how to comment to get your comments pinned by your industry leaders.

I commented every single day, without fail, on those accounts. I read their posts, and I answered questions hidden in the post, and nobody else was answering. I let each person know that I had thoroughly read their content before I posted a comment by showing them that I had done so in my comment.

The next thing I did was reply to other people's comments on those industry leaders' posts. I did not try to take their attention; I did not ask them to come to check out my page; I did not do any "look at me" tactics to disrespect the original creator.

Instead, I genuinely praised an excellent comment, I joked with a funny comment, or I simply said "Yes, I can relate to this!".

Finally, I treated people with respect when they commented on my posts. When people commented on my page, I gave them my full attention. I went to their account before answering them and looked for their name; I used their name when I replied to their comment. I did not leave a generic "thanks" on a comment that someone took a few moments to write; I gave them the respect that their comment deserved.

I then went back to their page and commented on their post, reciprocating the attention they had given my work.

And there you have it – a simple 3-step method for becoming visible and growing on Instagram. Now that you know how to get seen, there's just one thing left for you to do: take action.

So get to it, and soon you too will become visible on Instagram in your niche!
